History
St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, was established in 1880 and has extended its reach through several other institutions, including St. Aloysius Industrial Training Institute. Its purpose is to train rural youth for jobs in the industrial sector.
The government of India in 1950 introduced a Craftsmen training scheme to prepare skilled workers for industry. In 1956 the government set up the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) as an advisory body to maintain the standards of training countrywide. and maintains uniformity in the standards of training all over the country. SAITI conforms to Industrial training institute Directorate General of Employment and Training regulations and is permanently affiliated with NCVT, receiving grant-in-aid.

Programs
Training of one or two-year duration is given in 9 different trades, followed by the All India Trade Test conducted by NCVT, which awards the National Trade Certificate on behalf of the Government of India.
Certificates awarded are in the fields of Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Refrigeration /A.C Mechanic, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Dress Making, Sanitary Technology, Computer Operator, Welder, Mechanic Diesel, Tata Certified Course Motor Mechanic, Short Term Courses, Motor Driving School (Four Wheeler).
Facilities include a library with more than 4,000 books, free computer and AutoCAD training for students, a hostel facility for boys, a mid-day meal facility for the deserving students, a canteen facility at concessional rates, sports and extracurricular activities to promote overall development of students, training and seminars for personality development, visits to industries and hands on job training, driving training for students at concessional rates, a well-equipped language lab to facilitate spoken English, and an audio visual room. Major industries offer on-campus job interviews at SAITI.
Special events include Teacher's Day & New Harvest Festival Celebration and a two-day spiritual retreat for students.
